2 Injured, 2 Killed, and 1 Missing After Avalanches in French Alps

Authorities said that two people had been seriously injured, two others have died, and one is reported missing after a series of avalanches took place in the French Alps.

The gendarmes in the eastern region of Haute-Savoie of France said that three avalanches happened over a two-hour period on Sunday in the Vallorcine sector and a fourth one occurred earlier in the nearby Samoens area, that is near the Swiss border.

The local prefecture in Vallorcine says that one of the avalanches swept away a group of three Belgian skiers and with their guide. One of the Belgian skiers died, and another suffered a severe back injury. The third skier and their guide were unharmed.

Authorities released a warning about a high risk of avalanches in the French Alps, where four other skiers were killed last Friday.
