$27,000 Worth of Merchandise Stolen From An Apple Store In The US

An affiliate of ABC News reports that it took only a few seconds for a group of four thieves to run off with $27,000 worth of Apple products over the past weekend. The team of bandits was able to rip out various electronics that were tethered to display chargers from tables across an Apple store that is located in Fresno, California. The robbery took place at the Fashion Fair Mall. In the surveillance video, it appeared that the robbery startled the customers and employees of the Apple store. They stood by as the fast-acting group grabbed as many electronics as possible before going out of the store.

The complete heist was captured by the surveillance cameras that were installed inside the store. It showed four young men who were wearing hoodies making quick work of taking iPhones and laptops. REportedly, the crew was able to steal 26 items in total, all from the centre two tables that are located in the front and middle of the Apple store. iPhones were quickly yanked out and laptops were slammed shut and pulled from their securing cords before the group ran for the exit. In the video, it appears that a bystander tried to block their escape, however, he was pushed aside, and all four men were able to run away apparently unscathed.

The store’s customers can be seen crowding together in petrified groups. One young girl even ducked under a table for safety.

Fresno Police Department’s Mark Hudson, stated: “Various iPhones, the iPhone 6, iPhone 7 and 8, and even the new iPhone X was taken in this grand theft.”

He added: “One customer stood by the door to prevent them from leaving but was knocked out of the way.”

The police are currently looking for the suspects, who are described as four or five black males who are between the ages of 16 and 18 years old. The fifth member of the group is assumed to be the getaway driver. The police said that none of the four suspects in the store ever displayed some kind of weapon.

Law enforcement officials consider that the theft may be related to a notably similar incident that happened at an Apple Store that is located in downtown San Luis Obispo, California on the 21st of June. In that case, the robbers were able to take a table’s worth of merchandise.

Hudson stated: “There are other reports of other places, other cities in California, that have had these kinds of takeover thefts.”

He added: “So we are looking into [this crime] being connected to other crimes, at any other Apple Stores outside of Fresno.”
