iOS 11.2.1 for iPhone and iPad has been released by Apple after the discovery last week that HomeKit had a major vulnerability with regards to security. The bug was first reported by 9to5Mac. It allowed unauthorised users to have access to connected smart devices such as thermostats, lights, locks and garage door openers. The server-side fix of Apple of the issue corrected the problem. However, it also disabled remote access to some shared users. The said functionality is currently restored with the new update.
The iOS 11.2.1 update of Apple says that it “fixes bugs including an issue that could disable remote access to shared users of the Home app.” Apple has also released the tvOS 11.2.1, which 9to5Mac states is possibly related to the same issue. Both updates are about to be released to users of Apple’s iPhone, iPad and Apple TV currently.
