Boots has announced that it will reduce the price of a controversial £50 advent calendar after it received a series of criticism online.
The offending product bears the name of Zoe “Zoella” Sugg, the popular makeup and lifestyle Youtuber. The vlogger has a huge fanbase that is predominantly made up of teenagers and children, and she has previously gained commercial success with her own makeup range.
However, the Zoella 12 Days of Christmas advent calendar has prompted a storm on social media and has been branded “tat” and “not worth it” by reviewers.
The said calendar costs £50, and it contains a bag of glitter, two cookie cutters, two candles, a tree ornament, a pen, a notebook, stickers, a pom-pom key ring, and room spray.
Last night, Boots released a statement stating that it would be selling the calendar for £25 instead of £50 from tomorrow as part of the company’s Christmas promotions.
However, the damage was already done for most reviewers on the Boots website. A total of 142 reviews has given the calendar a rating of under 1.5 stars so far. Commenters have called the calendar “overpriced.”
One customer stated: “I bought this for a friend and we wanted to see what’s inside so opened all the doors to find some glitter and some candles. Behind one of the days is literally some glitter and another some stickers. Worth £10 at best.”
