Snapchat is making it easier for users to do everything that they need to do inside its app, including ordering a ride and booking restaurants.
On Tuesday, the company announced that it was introducing Context Cards, a feature that allows outside companies to include their services inside the Snapchat app. Foursquare, TripAdvisor, goop, Michelin, Resy, Bookatable, OpenTable, Lyft, and Uber are among the companies that were included at the launch. Snap did not disclose financial terms of the partnerships.
“With Context Cards, Snaps have become the visual starting point for learning more about the world, empowering our community to get more information about anything that catches their eye,” wrote the company in a blog post.
Context Cards can appear in any snap that is location-tagged. This can be added if a business has its own filter, or if the user submits the snap to the apps’ public Our Story feature.
Users can access the Context Card through the word “More” which currently appears at the bottom of the snap. Swiping up then shows the extra content, like restaurant reviews from TripAdvisor and Michelin, goop’s City Guides, or the ability to book a reservation via Resy, Bookatable, or OpenTable. Users may also be able to call for a Lyft or an Uber to get to the business.
The function will be available in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia on Android and iOS at launch, with additional countries to be announced at a later date.
