Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, has accused China of hacking the emails of Hillary Clinton, his 2016 presidential election opponent, despite an ongoing investigation by US officials regarding the involvement of Russia.

This morning, Trump wrote in a tweet: “Hillary Clinton’s Emails, many of which are Classified Information [sic], got hacked by China. Next move better be by the FBI & DOJ or, after all of their other missteps (Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page, Ohr, FISA, Dirty Dossier etc.), their credibility will be forever gone!”

In a separate tweet earlier in the day, he also wrote: “China hacked Hillary Clinton’s private Email Server. Are they sure it wasn’t Russia (just kidding!)? What are the odds that the FBI and DOJ are right on top of this? Actually, a very big story. Much classified information!”

Previously, intelligence officials in the US have said that Russia was the source of the hacks that were made against Democratic officials during the 2016 presidential election.

Last July, a federal grand jury charged 12 Russian intelligence operatives on charges that alleged their involvement in the hacking of the emails of Clinton and some other party representatives.

In April 2017, Trump first accused China of hacking the emails of Democratic officials in a similar manner. However, he provided no evidence at the time. Also, he still needs to provide evidence to support his latest claims.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson informed a daily news briefing: “this isn’t the first time we’ve heard similar kinds of allegations.”

She added: “China is a staunch defender of cybersecurity. We firmly oppose and crack down on any forms of internet attacks and the stealing of secrets”.

Currently, the US and China are embroiled in an ongoing trade war, with both sides imposing steep tariffs on various goods and services.

In a series of tweets that were posted yesterday, Trump also lashed out at Google, the tech giant. He accused that the search engine rigged the results for “Trump News” against him in favour of the critical articles that are from “leftwing media” publications including CNN.

later that day, Trump said to reporters during an interview in the Oval Office: “I think Google is really taking advantage of our people,”

He added: “Google, and Twitter and Facebook, they are really treading on very, very troubled territory, and they have to be careful. It’s not fair to large portions of the population.”

Larry Kudlow, the economic adviser of Trump, said that the White House is conducting “some investigation and analysis” into Google. He did not provided further details regarding the matter.
