Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, has lashed out at Google, the search giant, in a series of tweets. He accused the site of “rigging” a feed of biased, and negative news articles whenever users are searching the phrase “Trump news.”
The president said that most of the stories that emerge when searching the site are “bad” news articles that were written by the “National Left-Wing Media.”
He added that the news from conservative or Republican sources were being “suppressed” by Google.
In a series of tweets, Trump said: “Google search results for “Trump News” shows only the viewing/reporting of Fake New Media. In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD. Fake CNN is prominent. Republican/Conservative & Fair Media is shut out. Illegal? 96% of the results on “Trump News” are from National Left-Wing Media, very dangerous. Google & others are suppressing voices of Conservatives and hiding information and news that is good. They are controlling what we can & cannot see. This is a very serious situation-will-be-addressed!”
A spokesperson from Google denied the said claims. He says that the company has never ranked the search results in order to “manipulate political sentiment”.
The statement from Google read: “When users type queries into the Google Search bar, our goal is to make sure they receive the most relevant answers in a matter of seconds. Search is not used to set a political agenda and we don’t bias our results toward any political ideology.”
It added: “Every year, we issue hundreds of improvements to our algorithms to ensure they surface high-quality content in response to users’ queries. We continually work to improve Google Search and we never rank search results to manipulate political sentiment.”
Even though he did not include the source of his information, President Trump is thought to have been pertaining to the data that was published with PJ Media, a conservative blogging site.
Early this morning, the site was included on a Fox Business feature. Several hosts were talking about how Google was “banning conservatives” from appearing in the search results.
Trump said that he is planning to address the situation, even though he gave no circumstances as to how or when.
The Shares in Alphabet, the parent company of Google, dropped by 0.4 percent.
