On Monday, with an enormous $40.2 million worth of ticket sales, “Black Panther” has achieved the biggest Monday ever that is recorded at the box office and driven its four-day ticket sales total to $242 million.
On Tuesday, Walt Disney Co. increased their box-office estimates for the Marvel sensation again. The updated Monday performance of the film narrowly surpassed the previous record that was set by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” that was released in 2015 with ticket sales amounting to $40.1 million.
The higher figure last Monday gives “Black Panther” the second largest four-day weekend, only behind the $288.1 million of “The Force Awakens.”
The film of Ryan Coogler is the first big-budget tentpole release that is featuring an almost all-black cast. The three-day gross of the movie of $201.8 ranks to be the fifth highest all time, not considering inflation.
