At a major event in California, Apple has unveiled the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, two new smartphones. The tech giant also launched the premium iPhone X handset.
The two new smartphones are upgrades to Apple’s current iPhone 7 and 7 Plus range, introducing updates to some of the main features that are found on the current products of Apple.
Most pundits initially thought that the iPhone 8 would b the main new phone of Apple – however, as part of the 10th anniversary of the original iPhone, the tech giant released three smartphones instead.
“Our intention was always to create something so magical, powerful, that the hardware virtually disappears,” Tim Cook said during the launch.
Tim Cook added that it was a “new step forward for iPhone” that would “set the path for technology for the next decade.”
Apple executive Phil Schiller, while introducing the iPhone 8, said that the new phone “improves on everything we love about the iPhone.”
Date of release and best deals
The new iPhones will be available for sale on September 22. Pre-orders have started since September 15. On September 19, iOs 11 will be available to download.
The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are anticipated on many of the UK networks for slightly cheaper plans than what users would find on the iPhone X. Users can pre-order the new devices with the main suppliers from companies like O2, EE Mobile, Vodafone, Three Mobile, Sky Mobile, Carphone Warehouse.
Design and appearance
Both the iPhones have almost the same appearance as the current iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
The larger phone features a 5.5-inch screen and a dual camera lens on the back, while the smaller version has a 4.7-inch screen.
Apple says that its processor, the A11 Bionic is “the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone.”
The new smartphones will feature glass on the front and at the back of the phone, “reinforced by a laser welded steel and copper.” Both devices will also be dust and water resistant.
“The new iPhone will have the most durable glass ever in a smartphone,” stated Schiller.
Both of the new models will have a 12MP camera and an HD retina display.
The new iPhone 8 range will be available in space grey, silver, and a new blush gold colour.
