Italian Woman Arrested in Denmark for Ordering Murder Online in Bitcoin

A woman from Italy who ordered her boyfriend’s murder via a website and paid a hitman in the digital currency bitcoin was sentenced to six years in a Danish jail on Friday.

The court discovered that the 58-year-old woman ordered the said murder, which was never carried out, in March. She transferred 4.1 bitcoins, which were then worth about $4,000, to the virtual wallet of the hitman.

Bitcoin can be electronically transferred between users even without an intermediary such as a bank, making it possibly attractive for buying illegal services or goods.

The court said that the woman, who has been a resident of Denmark for thirty years, will be expelled after serving her jail sentence.

The Danish public broadcaster said that the intended murder victim was at the court hearing that happened on the north of Copenhagen on Friday and talked with the woman after the verdict.
