Jacob Rees-Mogg has been selected to be the chairman of a group of Tory MPs who scrutinise the handling of the government regarding Brexit called the European Research Group.
Rees-Mogg is a leading Eurosceptic. He stood unopposed during the election for the said chairmanship.
The said position became vacant when Suella Fernandes, the former chair, became a junior minister in the Department for Exiting the European Union during the reshuffle of Theresa May.
In a statement, Mogg stated: “In this role, I am keen to help the government implement the principles laid down by the Prime Minister, Mrs Theresa May, in her Lancaster House speech.
“It is especially important to achieve control of our laws, control immigration and achieve new trade agreements with other countries.”
