On Monday, the Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed their third child — a prince.

The statement disclosed: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs.

“The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.”

The statement continued: “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.

“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

Prince George, the baby’s big brother who is currently four years old, was at school when his little brother was born and Princess Charlotte, the baby’s big sister who turns three this coming May, was at home at Kensington Palace.

The palace said that the name of the new prince would be announced in due course. According to British oddsmakers, Arthur and Albert are tied as the most popular names for a boy – at 9-1 and 5-1, respectively.

The self-proclaimed Royalist Town Crier went up the famous steps of the Lindo Wing and shouted, “God Save the Queen,” and revealed the birth of the new prince.

The newest member of the royal family was born at St. Mary’s Hospital that is located in London – just like Charlotte and George. Kate was admitted to the said hospital on Monday before 6 in the morning (U.K. time) during the early stages of labour.

The royal baby is now the fifth in the line of succession after Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

An official announcement that has the full details will be posted on an easel in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace as per royal protocol.

It is expected that close relatives – led by Carole and Mike Middleton, the parents of Kate, and William’s father Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall – will likely come to see the couple and the as-yet-unnamed baby prince before the Kate and the baby are discharged from the hospital.

After the celebratory formalities that include a gun salute in one of the parks in London, the couple is anticipated to take their baby home to the nearby Kensington Palace, where Queen Elizabeth, the baby’s great-grandmother may then visit.

As the couple spends their first moments with the new baby, fans of the royal family have gathered outside the said hospital as they anticipate for another mini press conference just like the one that William and Kate held to introduce George and Charlotte.

The arrival of the new royal baby comes weeks before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are scheduled to tie the knot at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
