The British diver, Vernon Unsworth, that was accused of being a paedophile by Elon Musk, the Tesla boss, is said to be “preparing a civil complaint for libel” through his legal counsel.
A letter that was sent by L. Lin Wood, the lawyer of Unsworth, was dated to the 6th of August and was seen by Buzzfeed News. It provided some grounds for a possible lawsuit against the Tesla CEO for his “false and defamatory statements” regarding the diver.
Last night, Musk reignited controversy on Twitter over the comments in which he referred to Unsworth as a “pedo guy.” The comments of Musk came after Unsworth criticised his plans to launch a miniature submarine as part of the rescue effort in Thailand for the 12 young footballers who were trapped in a cave.
The Tesla billionaire suggested that Unsworth had not followed through on legal proceedings over the comments.
In the midst of a Twitter dispute last night over his interview with the New York Times at the start of the month, Musk joined a second war of words with another user on Twitter to say that it was “strange” Vernon Unsworth, the diver in question, had not started any legal proceedings.
Previously, Musk made the claims on Twitter without evidence. He later deleted the tweets after he issued an apology to Unsworth.
According to Buzzfeed, Unsworth’s lawyer L. Lin Wood, wrote in the letter: “You published through three different tweets to your 22m followers that Mr. Unsworth engages in the sexual exploitation of Thai children, and you did so at a time when he was working to save the lives of twelve Thai children.”
The letter added: “You did so without any basis. According to a subsequent Twitter post, you did so out of anger.”
Requests for comment regarding the matter were not immediately responded to by Tesla.
