The first trailer for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, the ABBA musical sequel, has been released.

Ten years after the huge success of the first film grossed more than $600m (£449m) globally, all of the original cast – including Amanda Seyfried, Julie Walters, and Meryl Streep – have returned for the sequel of the movie. It will reveal the backstory of the character of Streep in a flashback featuring a younger version of Donna that is played by Lily James.

The trailer has drawn concerns from various fans that Donna has died with the movie reflecting upon Donna’s past in memory of the character.

Christine Baranski, Dominic Cooper, and the actors behind the possible dads of Sophie – Stellan Skarsgård, Colin Firth, and Pierce Brosnan – will also return for more with a cameo appearance from Cher who shows up at the climax of the trailer as her “uninvited” grandmother.

The movie is written and directed by The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’s Ol Parker. The film will see ABBA members, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderson, once again provide the music and lyrics for next year’s surefire blockbuster.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is set to be released on the 20th of July 2018.
