The United States of America has been criticised by North Korea for utilising “pressure and military threats” and for the “misleading” claims of the country that sanctions forced Pyongyang to the negotiating table.
According to the state news service, an official at the foreign ministry of the country said that the proposition that the sanctions will not be lifted until North Korea gives up the nuclear weapons of the nation was a deliberate provocation.
The spokesperson from North Korea also said that claims that the actions of the United States of America had compelled North Korea towards discussions were a “dangerous attempt” to meddle with the relationship of the nation with South Korea.
The official also warned the United States not to interpret a “peace-loving intention” as a hint of weakness.
Last month, North Korea promised to discontinue the nuclear test sites of the country. Recently, a historic meeting also took place between Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader, and Moon Jae-in, the South Korean leader.
Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, is scheduled to meet with Kim Jong Un in the coming few weeks. This marks the first-ever meeting to be held between the incumbent leaders of the two nations.
The two leaders had been routinely trading insults over the previous year. They have seemed to be on better terms during the recent weeks. Last month, US President Donald Trump said that a deal that is to be made with North Korea is now “very much in the making.”
However, officials from the United States of America have also suggested that it was their tough policy which forced the North Korean Leader to engage in diplomacy.
North Korea said that the suggestion was an attempt to disrupt the “hard-won atmosphere” of peaceful discussions in the region.
