A research that was released today has revealed that in the United Kingdom, hungry office workers spend approximately £5bn per year on supermarket meal deals at lunchtime.
Surprisingly, cheese was named as the top choice for filling in the United Kingdom, as 17 percent of Brits said that it was considered as their favourite sandwich.
Chicken and bacon and tuna were all tied for second place as 13 percent of the people who were surveyed said that it was their preferred choice. It was followed by chicken on its own and ham, which each received 12 percent of the votes.
The said findings were based on a research that was conducted by Wonga. It asked 13,000 adults regarding their preferences for their meal deals.
The said study estimated that employees in the United Kingdom would likely spend approximately £10,000 on meal deals in their working lifetime, on average, as office workers gobbled up more than £20m worth of supermarket lunch offers per day.
Approximately 30 percent of the respondents said that they thought Tesco was considered to offer the best value for meal deals. However, according to Wonga, Sainsbury’s is actually the provider of the best deal for the customers.
The head of marketing in the UK at Wonga, James McMaster, stated: “Heading to the supermarket to pick up a meal deal at lunchtime every day can be expensive. That’s why it’s important to know where you can shop to get the most for your money. And since we spend more than £20ma day on meal deals, it makes a difference to know where you can get the best deal.”
