The petition to roll back on the new design of Snapchat has managed to secure more than a million signatures.
According to Nic Rumsey, the creator of the Change.org petition, the “many ‘new features’ of the update are useless and defeat the original purpose that Snapchat has had during the past years.
The petition currently has 1,010,131 signatures as of writing.
The most recent update features a major redesign that splits interactions between friends from those by celebrities, influencers, and brands.
In a blog post, Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snapchat, said that in the past, mixing the two was already “blurring the lines between professional content creators and your friends.” He said that it had been an “interesting Internet experiment.”
An unfortunate side-effect from this is that any influencers or celebrities that you were following are now efficiently partitioned away in a separate part of the Snapchat app requiring you to search for them every time that you want to view their content.
Reactions to the said update have been almost widely negative with the app obtaining only a three-star rating on the App Store of Apple.
Some celebrities have also spoken out against the new update including Chrissy Teigen who said in a tweet: “I liked that you guys felt like we were friends. I’m sad it doesn’t feel like that anymore. How many people have to hate an update for it to be reconsidered?”
Also, Kylie Jenner responded to a complaint of a fan regarding the new update of the app stating, “I kinda agree.”
