On Tuesday, a person close to the matter said that Robert Mueller, a Special Counsel, has requested Deutsche Bank to disclose data on accounts that are held by US President Donald Trump and the first family.
The person added that the largest bank of Germany received a subpoena from Mueller a few weeks ago to provide information regarding certain money and credit transactions, validating a report by German daily Handelsblatt that was published on Tuesday.
Deutsche Bank, which has accommodated the loan of the Trump organisation of millions of dollars for real estate ventures, stated that it would not comment on any of the bank’s clients.
In June, Deutsche Bank declined demands by US House Democrats to present details regarding the finances of Trump, citing laws on privacy.
Mueller is currently investigating the alleged Russian attempts to influence the US presidential elections that were held last year and possible collusion by various aides of Trump.
Russia has dismissed allegations of meddling in the election and Trump has stated that there no collusion occurred.
