Twitter released a number of news-related features over the last couple of years in an attempt to become the go-to source for the latest in current events across the globe. For instance, the social media platform introduced a dedicated News tab way back in 2015. However, that one did not work out as planned. Last March, Twitter also began testing an algorithm that places trending tweets from news organizations at the top of the timeline of the users when something huge happens. Currently, according to BuzzFeed News, the social media platform has released a new feature that will highlight news links that are tweeted by the people that a particular user Follows right in their Home timeline. Below the highlighted story, the user will see all the tweets that are from their network that mention the particular link.
Twitter has already confirmed the release of the said feature to the publication, which said that it is now out for all the users across Android, iOS, and the web. Twitter has been reached out to clarify whether the release is truly a public worldwide rollout or just a limited test.
Twitter began grouping together tweets regarding ongoing events back when it introduced “Happening Now.” In the beginning, it only applied to sports topics. However, this new feature and the one that places trending tweets that were made by news organizations to the top of the feeds of the users are possibly part of its expansion.
