Trump Enraged Amidst US government shutdown, Threatens To Close US Southern Border

Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, has threatened to close the southern border of the United States if the Congress refuses to give $5 billion in taxpayer funds for his proposed Mexican border wall.

Currently, the majority of the federal government is shut down due to lack of funding as the dispute over the proposed border wall continues to intensify, while Congress has been suspended until next week.

However, President Trump, who has cancelled his plans to spend Christmas at his second home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, has stayed in Washington during the holidays.

He is demanding $5.7 billion (£4.5 billion), which was passed by the House of Representatives by 217 – 185. However, it has so far been rejected in the Senate.

On Twitter, he said today: “We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with. Hard to believe there was a Congress & President who would approve!”

He added: “Either we build (finish) the Wall or we close the Border.”

Trump also made new threats to cut off the aid funding given to Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. He said that they were taking advantage of the US.

He tweeted: “…..Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador are doing nothing for the United States but taking our money. Word is that a new Caravan is forming in Honduras and they are doing nothing about it. We will be cutting off all aid to these 3 countries – taking advantage of U.S. for years!”

In some TV interviews today, the aides of President Trump also tried to pass the blame for the said shutdown onto the Democrats, for thier refusal of his demands.

During an interview with the CBS, Sarah Sanders, the spokesperson of the White House, she said that Democrat Nancy Pelosi – who is set to become the speaker of the House of Representatives next week after the victory of her party in the midterm elections last November – was the one to blame.

Sanders stated: “Nancy Pelosi is only looking to protect her speakership but not protect our borders and that’s why she’s unwilling to negotiate with us and unwilling to make any type of a deal and unwilling to help do what is necessary.”

Meanwhile, in an interview with Fox NewsMick Mulvaney, the acting chief of staff of the White House, stated: “Where is [Democrat] Chuck Schumer? Where is Nancy Pelosi? They’re not even talking right now.”

Last Thursday, a spokesperson for Schumer said that the parties were still far from resolving the said shutdown, which started last Saturday. The Democrats have given thier support for $1.3 billion in funds for border security, however, they continue their long-held opposition to the proposed border wall of Trump.
