Nick Pickles, the policy guru in the United Kingdom of Twitter, is going to Silicon Valley to assume a new role as the senior strategist at the headquarters of social networks.
Pickles was a former privacy campaigner who joined Twitter in 2014. He has overseen the relationships of the social network with the government at a time when it has been under investigation on various issues including extremist content and fake news.
Last year, Pickles faced a particularly difficult grilling from the Home Affairs Select Committee especially from Yvette Cooper, its then chair, along with some executives from Facebook and Google over attempts to tackle abuse.
Pickles also lead the response of Twitter to criticism from Theresa May, the British Prime Minister, in the midst of the terror attacks that occurred on London Bridge.
Most recently, he presented evidence to a committee of MPs in the United States who are investigating fake news. Previously, he served as the director of Big Brother Watch.
Last week, Twitter reported its first-ever quarterly profit that is indicating a turnaround in its business.
