Bill Haas, the former FedEx Cup winner, has been left “shaken up.” However, he was not seriously hurt after the sports car that he was travelling in was involved in a crash in Los Angeles, leaving his driver dead.

He was a passenger in a Ferrari which crashed with a BMW, whose driver also suffered serious injuries. A third vehicle was being driven by Luke Wilson, a Hollywood actor.

The man who was driving Haas was a member of a family that he had been staying with before the Genesis Open which will occur at Riviera Country Club to the west of the city, which is scheduled to start on Thursday.

Jay Haas, the father of Bill and a fellow professional who currently plays on the PGA Tour Champions for seniors, said that his son had injured his leg, but he has not broken any bones. He stated: “Bill was very fortunate.”

Allen Hobbs, the manager of Haas junior, stated: “While Bill escaped serious injuries and had been released from the hospital, he is understandably shaken up, and more importantly his deepest condolences go out to the host family during this tragic and difficult time.”

He added that Haas is the current world No65 and had withdrawn from the Genesis Open, where Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, and Tiger Woods are among the entrants.

Wilson is the elder brother of Owen Wilson, also a Hollywood actor.  He is a star of films which include the Royal Tenenbaums and Legally Blonde. He was not hurt during the accident.
