US Soul Singer Aretha Franklin Passed Away At 76

The publicist of Aretha Franklin, the famous soul singer from the United States of America, says that the performer passed away at home in Detroit after her battle with cancer.

Aretha Franklin is well-known as the Queen of Soul. on Thursday, her publicist announced that she has died at her home in Detroit.

According to Gwendolyn Quinn, her representative, she died while she was “surrounded by family and loved ones” at around 9.50 on Thursday morning. She added that the singer had been battling with advanced pancreatic cancer.

A statement that was released by the singer’s family stated: “In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family.”

It added: “We have been deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of love and support we have received from close friends, supporters and fans all around the world.”

It continued: “Thank you for your compassion and prayers. We have felt your love for Aretha and it brings us comfort to know that her legacy will live on”

Last Wednesday, many people were praying for the ill Franklin in the Detroit church where her father was served as a pastor.

The special vigil for the US singer started at the New Bethel Baptist Church before dawn.

The prayers came a day after Stevie Wonder paid a visit to the Queen of Soul at her home.

Glynn Turman, an actor and the ex-husband of Franklin, also paid a visit to the star.

The 76-year-old sang with matchless style on various classics including Think and Respect, her signature song. She cancelled her planned concerts earlier this year after her doctor ordered her to stay off the road and rest.

The funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
