Virginia Judge Rejects Bid of Volkswagen to Delay First Trial on U.S. Diesel Emissions

On Tuesday, A state court judge in Virginia rejected a request by the unit of Volkswagen AG in the United States of America to delay several of the trials of the company over excess emissions due to fears that “inflammatory” comments that are made by a lawyer that is representing car owners in a TV documentary will likely prejudice the jury.

Bruce White, Fairfax County Circuit Court judge, said after a hearing that he would continue with a trial that is scheduled on the 26th of February that is involving a man from North Carolina who purchased a 2014 diesel Jetta.

Volkswagen said that publicity from a Netflix documentary that revealed that the company had jointly sponsored some tests that exposed some monkeys in 2014 to toxic diesel fumes could affect its chances of receiving a fair trial.
